Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)

 

STD are a growing group of conditions which are transmitted by sexual intercourse. These diseases represent an important way of HIV transmission.

There are different types of infective agents:

  1. viral (HIV, hepatitis, genital warts, genital herpes),
  2. bacterial (gonorrhea, syphilis),
  3. protozoa (trichomoniasis),
  4. parasites (pediculosis).

The most of STD are curable by suitable therapies, but the early diagnosis is essential in order to prevent more difficult and dangerous conditions.
